Tyler’s family left everything behind for lifesaving treatment

Tyler’s blood cancer diagnosis stopped life in its tracks overnight for his entire family.

One day he was a happy four-year-old living life to the fullest. The next he was on his way from his home in Mount Isa to Brisbane to start lifesaving treatment

Within 24 hours, Tyler’s family arrived in Brisbane with nothing but a suitcase. They wouldn’t return home for another ten months.

"When Tyler was diagnosed with blood cancer, it was like my soul left my body. I had no idea how we were going to cope”

- Samantha, Tyler’s mum

Will you donate this Christmas to help give families like Tyler’s a place to stay where they can face blood cancer together?

Leaving behind your home, your friends and your support network is really tough. But for Daniel and his family, it was a reality they had to face.

Families like his who live in rural, regional and remote communities often have to relocate suddenly to get the life-saving treatment they need.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, the Leukaemia Foundation was able to provide Tyler’s family with an apartment at our Blood Cancer Centre in Brisbane.

It took away the stress of finding a stable place to stay at a time that they had so much more to worry about. It also gave the family a refuge where they could enjoy some much-needed time together when Tyler wasn’t in hospital getting treatment.

“It really did feel like home for us,Samantha says. “Tyler has really positive memories of that place, even though he was going through the worst stuff a child could go through.”

This Christmas, more families like Tyler’s will be facing the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis.

Instead of opening presents under the tree, families facing blood cancer will be reaching out to the Leukaemia Foundation in urgent need of support.

Please give this Christmas to help make sure they have a place to stay close to the lifesaving blood cancer treatment they need.
